A finely executed original pastel and charcoal study of a resting Barbary sheep (Aoudad) by the British artist Stefani Melton Fisher (1894–1963). Beautifully observed, the drawing captures the distinctive profile of this North African mountain sheep with remarkable economy of line and subtle tonal modelling, demonstrating Fisher’s accomplished draughtsmanship and keen understanding of animal anatomy.

Stefani Melton Fisher was a British painter, draughtsman and wood engraver. The son of Royal Academician Samuel Melton Fisher, he studied at the Byam Shaw and Vicat Cole School of Art before continuing his training at the Royal Academy Schools, later returning to teach at Byam Shaw. He exhibited throughout the early twentieth century, including at the Royal Academy and as part of the British section at the 1926 Venice Biennale. His work is admired for its sensitive observation of the natural world and refined, understated style.
