An exceptional original pastel and charcoal study of a Caracal by the British wildlife artist Stefani Melton Fisher (1894–1963). Beautifully observed, the drawing captures the poised elegance of one of Africa’s most distinctive wild cats, its characteristic black ear tufts and powerful form rendered with remarkable confidence and economy of line.

Stefani Melton Fisher studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools before exhibiting at the Royal Academy and representing Britain at the 1926 Venice Biennale. Best known for his sensitive animal studies, his work demonstrates an exceptional understanding of anatomy, movement and character.

The drawing is presented in an exceptional late 19th / early 20th-century hand-gilded ripple moulded frame, whose rich patina and historic surface complement the warmth of the original paper beautifully. The drawing is housed behind museum grade AR glass & is ready to hang.

English, 1920s.
