A beautifully observed original pastel and charcoal study of a deer by the British artist Stefani Melton Fisher (1894–1963). Signed lower right, the work is presented in a quality ebonised frame with linen mount, complementing both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Stefani Melton Fisher was a British painter, draughtsman and wood engraver. The son of the Royal Academician Samuel Melton Fisher, he studied at the Byam Shaw and Vicat Cole School of Art before continuing his training at the Royal Academy Schools, later returning to teach at Byam Shaw. He exhibited throughout the early twentieth century, including at the Royal Academy and as part of the British section at the 1926 Venice Biennale. His work is admired for its accomplished draughtsmanship and sensitive observation of the natural world.

This original drawing is an excellent example of Fisher’s ability to capture the quiet elegance and anatomy of wildlife through confident line and delicate shading.
