A truly outstanding late 19th century aesthetic movement chest of drawers by world renowned furniture makers Maple & Co.

Maple & Co. were one of the great names in British furniture and interior decoration, with a history stretching back to 1841. The firm grew from a London furnishing business into a vast operation incorporating cabinet-making, upholstery, timber importing and interior decoration, with showrooms and workshops on Tottenham Court Road.

Their prestigious commissions included the furnishing of White Lodge in Richmond Park in 1870, which was then the home of Francis, Prince of Teck and Princess Mary Adelaide.

Today, our own showroom is just a short distance from Richmond Park, making this connection particularly fitting — a piece made by the same celebrated London firm that furnished one of the Park’s most important historic residences. 

Crafted in beautifully figured honey-coloured timber and retaining its original aged brass ring handles.

Of generous proportions, the chest comprises six graduated drawers, with two smaller drawers above four full-width drawers. The drawer fronts are particularly striking, featuring naturally figured timber panels framed by contrasting dark diagonal chevron stringing.

The chest stands on a substantial stepped plinth base, further embellished with a geometric decorative band, while the moulded top completes its handsome architectural form.

A wonderfully characterful example of Maple & Co. furniture, combining excellent proportions, highly figured timber and restrained decorative detailing.
