An unusual 19th century ladder back low fireside chair with its original rush seat and casters to the rear legs.

Found on a farm in Bangor, North Wales but possibly Scottish or English.

Chairs, settles and stools were often made low for people to sit close to the fire on and remain below the smoke line in cottages in times before electricity was invented and everything took place around the hearth.

Many chairs were made deliberately low so that men & women could sit with their legs outstretched and work on their laps (domestic chores, repairing fishing nets, etc).

Measuring 1m high x 55cm wide x 55 cm deep with a 35 cm seat height.

Worldwide delivery available, not included in the price. Please enquire for a delivery quote or collect from our London gallery.
