EW Godwin Corner Chair
EW Godwin Corner Chair
An exceptional and rare 19th century corner chair stamped by EW (for EW Godwin) along with the numbers 6453 - the first time we’ve seen this.
Extremely similar to the design of a Sussex corner chair designed by Ford Madox Brown for Morris and Co. Both Liberty (Argyll chair) and Morris & Co (Sussex chair) produced similar chairs designed by Ford Maddox Brown in competition of each other.
A Morris & Co Sussex chair is held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and you can see more work from EW Godwin & Ford Maddox Brown in the V&A museum here in London.
Ebonised beech & original rush seat.
English circa 1885.
Collection available from our London showroom, alternatively please enquire for a quote for delivery before purchasing. Worldwide shopping is available.
