Chinoiserie Mirror

A lovely red & gilt lacquered chinoiserie mirror in the Queen Anne style. Featuring wonderful decoration to the cushion frame.

Original bevelled mirror plate with a touch of foxing.

75 cm high X 46 cm wide.

European artisans drew significant inspiration from imported Chinese and Japanese furniture. They aimed to capture the allure of Eastern designs, incorporating elements such as pagodas, landscapes, traditionally dressed figures and mythical creatures into mirrors, chest of drawers, porcelain etc. The red lacquer finish was crafted to resemble the imported Asian lacquer ware that had become highly desirable at the time.
