A substantial Arts & Crafts figured pitch pine chest of drawers, British, circa 1900–1910.

Constructed in beautifully figured pitch pine, this exceptional Arts & Crafts chest is arranged with two short over four long graduated drawers, retaining its original cast brass drop handles and brass escutcheons. The dramatic natural figure of the timber has been carefully selected and laid out across the drawer fronts, stiles and top, allowing the wood itself to become the principal decorative feature.

Of restrained architectural form, the chest displays the honest craftsmanship synonymous with the Arts & Crafts movement. Crisp chamfered detailing, robust hand-cut dovetailed drawers and a solid boarded back reflect the quality of its construction, while the original brass hardware complements the simplicity and integrity of the design. The carcase retains an impressed workshop number (15189), further suggesting manufacture by a quality cabinetmaking workshop.

With its impressive scale and beautifully matched timber, this is a particularly fine example of British Arts & Crafts furniture, combining understated design with exceptional craftsmanship and visual impact.
