Aesthetic Movement Dresser
Aesthetic Movement Dresser
A beautiful agonised dresser / cabinet in the Aesthetic Movement design.
English circa 1880.
Very good condition with the key present for the lock on the upper right cupboard compartment. Velvet backing to the central shelves which are flanked by two bevelled edge original mirror plates cupboard doors, the upper portion joined to the lower cupboard to form one piece of furniture. The very top rail is a particularly nice feature and the intricate brass hardware throughout shows real meticulous detail to the design.
As listed by the V&A: The Aesthetic Movement in Britain (1860 – 1900) aimed to escape the ugliness and materialism of the Industrial Age, by focusing instead on producing art that was beautiful rather than having a deeper meaning – 'Art for Art's sake'.
