19th-Century French Louis Philippe Burr Veneer Wall Mirror.

A handsome French Louis Philippe wall mirror, dating from the mid-19th century, retaining its beautifully aged original mercury mirror plate and untouched boarded reverse.

The elegantly proportioned frame displays the classic Louis Philippe form, with softly rounded upper corners and a clean rectangular outline. It is veneered throughout in richly figured burr timber, framed by fine ebonised line mouldings and an original gilt beaded slip surrounding the mirror plate.

The warm burr veneer contrasts beautifully with the deep black mouldings and naturally foxed mercury plate, giving the mirror the rich depth and character only found in genuine 19th-century examples.

Presented in good antique condition, minor historic wear, small veneer losses and light rubbing to the ebonised mouldings are consistent with nearly 200 years of use and add to its authentic character. The original mercury plate displays beautiful age-related foxing and oxidation, while the original boarded back and early iron hanging fittings remain intact.
